About the trip
This extended cruise with Fred. Olsen’s Borealis leaves Southampton and heads south towards the Canaries, giving a few days at sea to settle in before a brief visit to Antigua and the Dominican Republic. Jamaica, Costa Rica and Colombia follow, then a string of Caribbean islands including Barbados and Grenada.
The journey then turns to Brazil’s north coast, with calls including Santarém, a gateway to the Amazon rainforest, and Manaus, the city on the Rio Negro where river meets jungle. The cruise spends a few days on the Amazon itself, calling at places like Parintins, known for its folkloric festival, before continuing down Brazil’s coast to Rio de Janeiro.
Heading south again, Borealis stops in Argentina and Chile, sailing past Cape Horn and crossing the Drake Passage for several days of Antarctic Peninsula cruising. The return route visits the Falklands, Uruguay, and Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires before heading back across the Atlantic via Cape Verde and the Canaries, finishing in Spain and then Southampton.
