Highlights
Two days sailing from Liverpool to Norway
Stop in Ålesund with Art Nouveau architecture
Cruising through Romsdalsfjorden, Nordfjord and Lustrafjord
Visit to Olden and the Briksdal Glacier
Stop at Skjolden near Jostedalsbreen Glacier
Setting sail from Liverpool, this nine-night cruise on Borealis offers a steady passage north and then east into Norway’s fjord country. After two days at sea, the ship calls at Ålesund, a town known for its Art Nouveau architecture and position on several islands that thread the sea with bridges.
From there, it’s on to Åndalsnes, gateway to the Rauma Railway, which clings to steep mountainsides carved by the Romsdalsfjorden. The ship then spends time cruising both the Romsdal and Nordfjord, where sheer mountains plunge into water and waterfalls drum on the hull. Olden offers access to the Briksdal Glacier, an arm of Jostedalsbreen, Europe’s largest mainland glacier. The cruise continues into Lustrafjord and ends at Skjolden near Jostedalsbreen, with optional climbs on the Loen Skylift revealing views of the fjord above.
Fred. Olsen’s Borealis is a ship manageable enough to thread remote inlets yet spacious enough for relaxed nights aboard. The year’s changing light sets the mountains alight in oranges and browns, a reminder that the cruise is as much about quiet moments on deck as stepping ashore.
