About the trip
Fred. Olsen’s Bolette sets out from Newcastle for a week among Norway’s fjords and mountains. After a day’s sailing, the ship slips into Lysefjord, where Pulpit Rock stands watch above the water, and then heads for Bergen. There, it's possible to see the famously weathered wooden buildings along Bryggen wharf, a reminder of the city's Hanseatic past.
Next comes Skjolden, a small village tucked beside the Lustrafjord, itself a branch of the Sognefjord which the ship then follows westwards. The few roads give way to mountain trails near Hardangervidda National Park, and the ship calls at Eidfjord, close to Vøringsfoss, a waterfall with a dramatic drop.
Between visits to ports the cruise offers slow passages through Nordfjordeid and other fjord arms, making time to notice waterfalls that thunder from steep cliffs or scatter into mist. The Bolette is small enough to handle narrow fjord waters without fuss, making this a steady, reflective trip rather than a high-speed dash around the coast.
