About the trip
Setting off from Southampton, Balmoral heads north to Norway’s fjord country, a route shaped by steep mountains and long stretches of water folded into the land. Balmoral’s modest size makes it one of the few ships able to cruise Lysefjord, where cliffs tower above the water’s edge. Stops in Leirvik and Skjolden allow a closer look at towns framed by steep peaks.
The ship sails through Akrafjord past Langfoss waterfall, then continues along Åkrafjord and Lustrafjord before entering the longer Sognefjord and Nordfjord, with a chance to see Hornelen, Europe’s highest sea cliff, from the deck. The itinerary includes Kristiansund and Åndalsnes, towns connected by the dramatic Romsdalsfjorden.
