About the trip
Fred. Olsen’s Borealis sets sail from Liverpool for an 11-night trip through southern Spain and Portugal. After three days at sea, the ship reaches Gibraltar, where the Rock rises sharply above the harbour and the mix of British and Andalusian influences is clear in the promenade cafés and local chatter.
From there, the cruise calls at Málaga and Cádiz. Málaga keeps the feel of a working port with a lively waterfront and museums tucked beside streets where flamenco steps trace its history. Cádiz is a city of narrow streets, overlooked by the remains of a Roman theatre and fringed by beaches popular with locals.
Lisbon is reached by cruising up the Tagus River, a chance to see the city from its water edge before stepping ashore for pastéis de nata and fresh seafood. The final visit is Matosinhos near Porto, known for its fish markets and the start of Portugal’s port wine country. Two days at sea return the ship to Liverpool, allowing time to settle in after the cultural contrasts of Iberia.
