About the trip
This eight-night tour with Explore Worldwide begins in Calgary before heading into the Canadian Rockies. After a gentle start on the flat trail alongside Boom Creek, the route takes in two of the region’s striking glacial lakes: Lake Louise, with its turquoise water created by rock flour, and Moraine Lake, tucked beneath the sharp peaks of the Valley of the Ten Peaks.
The journey continues along the Icefields Parkway, pausing to view the Athabasca Glacier and Bow Lake, before reaching Jasper. One of the most demanding walks comes on day five, as the group ascends the Bald Hills ridge overlooking Maligne Lake. Closer to the end, the hikes ease off with a visit to Marble Canyon and a gentle amble up a boulder field to Consolation Lake, plus a gondola ride that puts Mount Rundle firmly in view.
On the final full day, the Chester Lake trail in Kananaskis Country offers a quieter side to the Rockies, then it’s back to Calgary. Along the way, the tour leader doubles as the driver, and there’s an opportunity to learn about the Yellowstone to Yukon conservation project en route.
