About the trip
This 13-night escorted cycling tour by Explore Worldwide starts in San José, Costa Rica’s capital, where coffee plants peek between the city’s grid-like streets. The route quickly heads to the Caribbean coast for a boat trip through the canals of Tortuguero National Park, a tangle of mangroves and rainforest that shelters manatees and crocodiles.
From there, it’s on two wheels across rural farmland and past banana plantations towards La Fortuna, home to the looming Arenal Volcano and thermal springs. The ride continues around Lake Arenal and through greener hills before reaching the drier plains and volcanic slopes of Guanacaste, where natural hot springs offer a welcome soak.
