A small-group escorted tour with Explore Worldwide across the Galapagos Islands, visiting wildlife hotspots including Española, Genovesa and San Cristóbal, with time for snorkelling and shoreline walks aboard the Archipel I.
Highlights
Red-footed booby nesting sites on Genovesa Island
Snorkelling among Galapagos penguins at Bartolomé
Giant tortoises at El Chato Tortoise Reserve on Santa Cruz
Historic Post Office Bay and Devil’s Crown reef on Floreana
Waved albatross colony at Punta Suarez, Española Island
This nine-night tour begins just outside Quito before flying west to the Galapagos Islands, where the isolated wildlife more than justifies the lengthy journey. After settling aboard the Archipel I, you'll begin on Bachas Beach with its coral sand and a lagoon occasionally visited by flamingos. A dinghy trip and hike on Genovesa Island follow, notable for sheer cliffs and red-footed booby nesting sites.

Later, the itinerary includes Bartolomé, where a hike to the summit rewards with views of Pinnacle Rock and opportunities to snorkel among Galapagos penguins and sea lions. Santa Cruz Island offers the El Chato Tortoise Reserve, where giant tortoises can be spotted amid the forest, along with visits to the unusual Twin Craters and the Fausto Llerena Breeding Centre, home to Lonesome George’s remains.
Eastward on Floreana, a snorkelling stop at Devil’s Crown and a visit to the historic Post Office Bay provide a mix of nature and history. Española’s cliffs host vast seabird colonies, including waved albatrosses in season, and the last day’s walk on Lobos Island offers up-close encounters with blue-footed boobies and sea lions before returning to the mainland.
