This small-group tour with Explore Worldwide begins in San Jose, where coffee plants grow out of surprisingly urban spaces. Heading to the Doka Estate, you’ll get a grounded look at Costa Rica’s coffee production before travelling to Arenal National Park to examine the volcano’s dual personality: lush and chaotic on one side, bare on the other.

Next, a gentle rafting safari reveals the local wildlife including toucans and capuchin monkeys, followed by a drive through cloud forest country to Monteverde. Here, the trail winds among ancient moss and ferns, with the chance to spot the elusive quetzal during breeding season. Finally, the trip moves to Manuel Antonio National Park, a place busy enough that one notices the contrast with the quieter mountain mornings — white-faced capuchins and slow-moving sloths share its tropical forest.

Two free days at the beach follow the escorted section, allowing time to revisit the park or try other activities like catamaran tours. The final afternoon returns inland to San Jose, leaving time for last-minute shopping or a quiet coffee before heading home.
