A Taste of Mexico - Markets and Mayan Sites

This two-week escorted tour with Explore Worldwide takes a leisurely route from the sprawling streets of Mexico City to the tropical climes of the Yucatán Peninsula. The journey starts in the capital with a street food tour and visits to lively markets, including the colourful Jamaica Market and Coyoacan’s crafts stalls. Pyramids at Teotihuacan and the colonial sweetness of Puebla introduce the inland segment.

Further south, Oaxaca offers markets, mezcal tastings and a hands-on cooking class at the city’s vast food market, followed by a long drive through mountain villages where weaving and ancient ruins share the landscape. A speed boat ride through Sumidero Canyon leads to San Cristóbal de las Casas, a spirited highland town with strong indigenous presence.

Moving into the humid jungles around Palenque, the itinerary includes an extended Mayan site visit before heading to Campeche’s past-spattered colonial quarter. The tour rounds off with ruins at Uxmal, pibil lunch in a village and the famous monuments of Chichen Itza, finishing in Merida.
