Midway through the holiday, the journey turns to the north-west coast with a guided tour of Alghero’s medieval old town, including its Gothic cathedral and sea walls topped by views of Capo Caccia cliffs. There’s also a wine tasting at a local vineyard, where small Sardinian delicacies provide a flavour of the region’s rural produce. Several days in Cannigione are left free for doing as much or as little as suits you, with optional trips available – including a ferry crossing to Bonifacio on neighbouring Corsica.
