This ten-night escorted tour by Travelsphere takes a leisurely route through three lesser-travelled southern Italian regions: Puglia, Calabria and Sicily. It starts in Ostuni, the ‘white city’ of Puglia, with lime-washed houses winding up the hillside and a visit to Alberobello’s trulli, those curious mortarless cone-roofed buildings.

From there, the trip moves inland to Matera, where cave homes known as the Sassi have been lived in for millennia. Crossing into Calabria, a boat ride along the Riviera dei Cedri reveals sea caves with water so clear the seabed remains visible from the boat. Diamante’s streets are a gallery of painted murals, a surprise that stays with you.

Sicily brings a change of pace with a visit to Savoca, remembered by film fans as a Godfather location, followed by time in Taormina, perched above the sea with views to Mount Etna.
