Travelsphere’s escorted tour takes in four of Uzbekistan’s key Silk Road cities over ten nights. Beginning in Tashkent, Central Asia’s largest city, you’ll see the mosaics and columns of its metro, and browse the colourful stalls of Chorsu Bazaar before hopping on the high-speed train to Samarkand. Here, domed mausoleums and the expansive Registan Square recall the city’s role as a meeting point of empires and artistry.

The journey continues to Bukhara, which holds more than two millennia of history in its twisting streets, minarets and market domes. Highlights include the old jail with its bleak torture chamber, and the opulent rooms of a former emir’s summer palace. The final city, Khiva, feels almost like a walled time capsule, where ancient mosques and caravanserais mingle with craft workshops and a folklore dance performance.
Overland drives include a passage through desert landscapes once crossed by silk traders, offering occasional views of the vast Kyzylkum Desert. This small-group tour allows time to settle in and absorb the character of each place, perhaps over a home-cooked meal or a cup of cardamom-spiced tea. The trip concludes back in Tashkent, where Uzbek ceramics and theatre scenes stand in contrast with the modern city.
