Walk Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania

From there, the route crosses into Latvia with time spent in Gauja National Park, often called the Latvian Switzerland for its hills and river valleys, as well as the medieval town of Cesis and the castles of Sigulda. After a brief tour of Riga's historic centre, the group visits wetland boardwalks and the spa town of Jurmala before crossing over to Lithuania to base on the Curonian Spit, a 98-kilometre sand dune line separating the Baltic Sea and Curonian Lagoon.

The final days trace a long drive to Trakai, with its 15th-century island castle, and end in Vilnius. The latter's World Heritage Old Town includes a 16th-century university and the distinctive Gothic St Anne's Church. Walks vary from forest trails and riverbanks to sandy dunes, sometimes uneven underfoot, with a steady but unhurried pace.
