Over several days you’ll follow paths that lead to the 78-metre Savica Waterfall, the Mostnica Gorge with its sheer limestone walls, and the views from a cable car above a mountain ski centre.

There are opportunities to visit nearby Lake Bled, where a steep climb rewards with a far-reaching viewpoint, or to take a wooden walkway over rivers and waterfalls in the Vintgar Gorge. Back at Lake Bohinj, the hotel is less touristy than Bled, with spruce forest on one side and the Julian Alps rising sharply beyond the water. It’s a place for steady walking and fresh air rather than speed, and a local’s chocolate shop is not far from where you’ll be staying.
