Cruise · 29 nights · with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
A 29-night cruise on Fred. Olsen’s Balmoral, from Alicante to Croatia and Montenegro via lesser-visited Greek islands, Malta and the Amalfi Coast, with time to linger at quieter ports and scenic coastal sailing along the Adriatic and Mediterranean.
Highlights
Sailing past the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast
Close coastal cruise by the volcanic island of Stromboli
Two ports on Crete: Souda Bay and Agios Nikolaos
Overnight stays in Dubrovnik and Kotor
Calls in smaller, less-frequented Adriatic and Mediterranean ports
This Mediterranean Islands & Adriatic Coastlines cruise with Fred. Olsen departs from Alicante, heading first to Ibiza and Propriano on Corsica. The route continues through Italy’s Golfo Aranci and past the Amalfi Coast, where the cliffs meet the sea in abrupt, colourful terraces. Balmoral sails close enough to Stromboli to catch the puff of volcanic smoke, then calls at Milazzo before crossing to Valletta, Malta’s fortified harbour.
The cruise then explores a number of Greek ports, including Souda Bay on Crete and Piraeus, gateway to Athens and its ancient ruins. You’ll find smaller island ports like Ermoupoli on Syros and Agios Nikolaos on Crete, each with its quieter pace and local charm. The itinerary widens out to Albania and Slovenia before touching the Dalmatian coast in Ancona, Sibenik, and Dubrovnik, where medieval walls rise sharply from the water’s edge.
Among the final days are scenic cruises through the Bay of Kotor and a call at the historic town of Kotor in Montenegro. With nearly a month aboard Balmoral, there’s ample time to appreciate the shifting landscape of islands, coastlines and bays rather than rush through them.
