Andalucia at Christmas

Starting in Malaga, the birthplace of Picasso, you’ll see its cathedral and the Moorish fortress Alcazaba before wandering the whitewashed streets of Mijas themselves, where bougainvillea and jasmine hang from balconies above quietly cobbled lanes. On Christmas Eve, a visit to Frigiliana offers winding alleys reflecting Moorish heritage, followed by Nerja’s old quarter with narrow streets and sandy beaches. Boxing Day brings a drive to Ronda, where a deep gorge slices through the town, spanned by the 18th-century Puente Nuevo offering high views down to the River Guadalevin.

There are optional excursions to Granada’s Alhambra and to Gibraltar’s ‘Rock’ with its Barbary apes, should you wish for longer days. The itinerary is relaxed, with chances to stroll, meet fellow travellers or linger over a festive dinner in Mijas.
