Balkan Highlights

Travelsphere’s Balkan Highlights is a well-paced escorted tour that moves from the Dalmatian coast into the heart of the Balkans, dipping into Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia. Beginning in Split with a stroll around the Old Town, it moves north to Zadar where a glass-blowing demonstration adds colour before heading inland to Plitvice Lakes National Park to walk along wooden boardwalks through turquoise pools and waterfalls.

The journey continues through the capitals Zagreb and Belgrade, with a wine tasting en route and a visit to Novi Sad’s Danube-side fortress city. Later, the narrow-gauge Sargan Eight railway in Serbia snakes through mountain valleys like an ‘8’, before crossing into Bosnia’s Sarajevo, where the sprawling city is explored, including its Ottoman-era mosque and the Sarajevo Tunnel Museum. Mostar follows with its famous Old Bridge where divers leap into the cold river.

The route ends back at the Adriatic in Split, leaving a free day to revisit sights or take an optional trip to nearby Trogir’s cobbled streets. It’s a trip that balances urban charm, historic sites and natural highlights without rushing, with a range of free afternoons to wander or rest.
