Journeys
This escorted cycling holiday with Explore Worldwide takes you south from Porto to Lisbon over seven days, mostly hugging the Atlantic coast. The route begins with a gentle pedal through Porto’s historic riverside areas before crossing Luís I bridge and moving on to the sandy shorelines and pine fringes of Furadouro. Along the way, you’ll ride past estuaries and pine forests, take a short ferry to Aveiro with its calm canals and colourful boats, then onward through marshes and beaches to Nazaré, a town famous for winter’s surfing waves.
The tour continues with coastal rides to the beach town of Sao Martinho do Porto, a stop at Foz de Arelho where windsurfers gather, and a detour inland for a walking tour of Obidos with its medieval walls and cobbled streets. Peniche, a small fishing port with a 19th-century fort, hosts the last night before a drive into Lisbon. Here, you can follow an orientation walk through the capital’s 18th-century grid and enjoy its array of restaurants, perhaps ending with live Fado music. The itinerary balances cycling distances with stretches of time to wander, rest or take in the ocean views.
