Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Visit to Tamegroute zaouia and potters' cooperative
Tour of Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate
This week-long escorted tour from Explore Worldwide begins in Marrakech, where the busy souks and the scent of mint tea set the scene. After a relaxed start, the route climbs through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n'Tichka Pass and stopping in the village of Tighza, where a short walk reveals the ways locals tend their terraced fields.
Journeys
The next day includes a valley hike beside ancient irrigation channels, before arriving opposite Ait Ben Haddou’s famous red kasbah. Cycling 21 kilometres to Ouarzazate offers a glimpse of the Draa Valley’s palm groves and traditional villages. The highlight remains the camel trek into the vast Sahara dunes near Zagora, where a Berber camp offers cold drinks and the chance to try your hand at bread-making under desert stars.
Returning north, the tour visits Tamegroute’s zaouia and potters, then the Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate. The final day is a guided stroll through Marrakech’s medina and spice-scented souks. It’s a varied route capturing both mountain and desert life, with enough time scattered for moments of quiet or curiosity.
