Journeys
This 12-night tour begins in Johannesburg, where the contrasts of a city once home to Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu are still visible. Heading northeast, you'll pause at God's Window and the Blyde River Canyon to take in sheer cliffs and a well-weathered series of rock formations known as Bourke’s Luck Potholes.
After a couple of days tracking the Big Five in Kruger National Park—chance of walking safaris included—the tour moves into Eswatini. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary offers a quieter animal experience, without big cats but with zebra, warthogs and resident hippos in view from the restaurant bar. The last few nights bring a taste of the Indian Ocean, staying near Kosi Bay among wetlands and beaches where birdlife is prolific and snorkelling is an option.
Explore Worldwide leads this escorted tour in a small group, where the pace varies from morning game drives before dawn to afternoons by the pool or wandering local villages. The quirkiest accommodation comes just outside Kruger, with former shipping containers converted into self-contained rooms. The journey finishes in Durban after a coastal stop at Umhlanga Beach, where you can stretch your legs on the sands before heading home.
