About the trip

This nine-night escorted tour with Travelsphere threads through the capitals and countryside of the Baltic states and Poland. It begins in Helsinki, where a stroll around Senate Square and the Sibelius Monument offers a taste of Finnish design and history. Next come Latvia and Lithuania, with visits to Turaida Castle and Sigulda’s town centre, then the Baroque splendour of Rundale Palace and the Hill of Crosses, where thousands of white crosses crowd the Lithuanian woodland. Vilnius’s Old Town, one of Europe’s largest surviving medieval centres, contains landmarks including St Anna’s Church and the Gate of Dawn.

The final days move into Poland, with time in Warsaw to see Castle Square and the Market Square’s monument to the city’s uprising. Along the way a stop at Grutas Park offers a decidedly unorthodox open-air museum of Soviet statues. The pace is relaxed, and there is a fair measure of variety in what’s on offer.
