Tour · 6 nights · with Explore Worldwide
A small-group trekking holiday with Explore Worldwide, ascending Morocco’s Jebel Toubkal through high valleys, traditional Berber villages and a mountain campsite before returning to Marrakech’s busy Medina.
Highlights
Climb to Jebel Toubkal summit at 4,167 metres
Walk through traditional Berber villages including Aremd
Stay in a fully supported mountain campsite at Neltner Refuge
Mint tea and people-watching at Marrakech’s Jemaa el-Fna
Hiking across the Matate and Azaden Valleys
This six-night trip with Explore Worldwide tackles the highest peak in North Africa, Jebel Toubkal, starting from the Red City of Marrakech. The route quickly leaves the dust and crowds behind, climbing through the Imlil Valley amid juniper forests and mountain villages where thick-mattressed Berber houses provide a steady base.
Journeys
Villages like Aremd, perched on a moraine spur, give a glimpse of day-to-day life alongside tranquil farms and mule-tracks. Higher up, the trail follows a rocky path to the Neltner Refuge camp, where basic tents and a mess tent await at just over 3,200 metres. On the summit day, the steep south cirque leads to broad views across the Atlas Mountains and, on a clear day, as far as the Sahara.
The final day drops back down to Marrakech for free time in the Medina’s sprawling souks or its wide main square, Jemaa el-Fna. The strong contrast between city and mountain is a reminder that this climb is as much about the journey through Morocco’s heart as the peak itself.
