Journeys
This brisk four-night tour from Explore Worldwide is a focused mountain trek designed to reach the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the highest point in North Africa. The trip begins in Marrakech, with time for a stroll through its maze-like medina or a quiet moment amid Jemaa el-Fna’s mint tea sellers.
From Marrakech, the group drives south toward the Toubkal Massif, transitioning from the dry plains to the cool foothills and the village of Imlil. From there, the walk heads upstream through the Mizane Valley to Aremd, a small Berber settlement set among fields of corn and walnuts. The route continues past Sidi Chamarouch, a humble shrine beside a waterfall, before climbing to a mountain camp just below the snowline.
Early the next day is the summit attempt via scree slopes and rocky paths. The view stretches over the High Atlas, the Marrakech Plain, and beyond to the desert edges. The descent retraces the route to Marrakech for a final afternoon, which can be spent revisiting the narrow streets and spice markets or exploring the French-built Gueliz district. It is a short but demanding holiday that balances traditional landscapes and local culture.
