Crossing into Uzbekistan, the journey shifts from rugged mountains to vast plains. You explore Fergana Valley’s ceramics in Rishtan, then on to Tashkent’s mix of Soviet-era rebuilding and old city sites. The itinerary includes Khiva’s 12th-century citadel and Bukhara’s historic mosques, bazaars, and citadel. The final days uncover Samarkand’s vast Registan Square, tombs, and observatory before a high-speed train journey back to Tashkent.

The pace balances sightseeing with stretches in small mountain villages and local guesthouses, as well as free afternoons. Expect a fair share of bus travel between sites, but plenty of views and a chance to see two quite different Central Asian countries close up.
