Travelling overnight by soft-sleeper train, the journey continues to Hue, a city noted for the Perfume River, ancient temples, and royal cuisine such as bun bo Hue. From here, the route winds along the Ocean Cloud Pass, pauses at a museum of Cham art, and arrives at Hoi An where merchants once mingled with Europeans and Japanese. Hoi An’s tailored clothing, ancient bridge, and riverfront cafes leave time for independent wandering or a cooking class.

The final stage flies south to the Mekong Delta’s narrow canals and villages, followed by time in Ho Chi Minh City with its French architecture, wartime museums, and the tunnels of Cu Chi that offer a sobering glimpse of Vietnam’s history.
