Tour · 8 nights · with Travelsphere
Travelsphere’s escorted tour around Iceland, tracing a route from Reykjavík to Akureyri, the East Fjords, and back, with glaciers, waterfalls and volcanic landscapes along the way.
Highlights
Goðafoss waterfall, the Waterfall of the Gods
Dimmuborgir lava fields known as the Dark Castles
Amphibian boat tour at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
The erupting Strokkur geyser at Geysir Geothermal Area
Þingvellir National Park where tectonic plates drift apart
This eight-night escorted tour with Travelsphere begins in Reykjavík, where a local guide highlights the fishing harbour, parliament buildings, and Hallgrímskirkja church. From there, the route pushes north through the Hvalfjörður Tunnel to Akureyri, stopping at a turf farmhouse that offers a glimpse of rural Icelandic life along the way.
Journeys
The journey continues east to Egilsstaðir and the volcanic surrounds of Lake Mývatn, with visits to Goðafoss waterfall and the steaming mud pools at Námaskarð. Crossing onwards through the East Fjords to Höfn, the itinerary includes a chance to see icebergs at Jökulsárlón and the black sands of Diamond Beach before heading along the south coast to Selfoss.
The final full days bring the Golden Circle’s highlights: Gullfoss waterfall, the erupting Strokkur geyser, and Þingvellir National Park where two tectonic plates meet. There’s free time in Reykjavík at the end, with options for a spa or a trip to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula for more volcanic coastline and Icelandic accents. A holiday marked by steady travelling and varied landscapes rather than rushed sightseeing.
