Tour · 8 nights · with Explore Worldwide
An eight-night small-group tour from Explore Worldwide through Iceland’s volcanic landscapes, from Reykjavik’s quirky capital to waterfalls, fjords and a solar eclipse guided by a starry-eyed expert.
Highlights
Walk between tectonic plates at Thingvellir National Park
Gullfoss waterfall and erupting Strokkur geyser
Boat ride among icebergs at Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon
Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall
Geothermal GeoSea baths on the northern coast
This eight-night escorted tour with Explore Worldwide follows a clockwise circuit beginning in Reykjavik, Iceland’s northern capital, with its mix of colourful iron houses and glass buildings set against volcanic terrain. Highlights on the southern leg include Gullfoss waterfall, the Great Geysir and the chance to edge behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall’s watery curtain, where the path is often slippery.
Journeys
The route crosses the wild south and east coast, spending time at Skaftafell where you can walk to glaciers or waterfalls, then moving on to less-visited fjords dotted with small fishing villages and grazing reindeer. At Lake Myvatn, volcanic rock formations form unusual shapes while Dettifoss thunders nearby as Europe’s most powerful waterfall. The tour ends back in Reykjavik after a stop in the neat timber town of Akureyri.
Alongside the landscape, the group meets people at Solheimar Eco Village and relaxes in geothermal pools by the sea at Husavik. The climax is the 2026 solar eclipse, led by astronomy expert Andy Green, a reminder that Iceland’s wide skies offer more than ground-level spectacle alone.
