Vietnam follows, starting in the narrow, fragrant streets of Hanoi and moving on to Cat Ba island and Lan Ha Bay before an overnight train to Hue. The sights range from the Imperial Citadel to the Ocean Cloud Pass and the five Marble Mountains before the ancient trading port of Hoi An and its faded merchant houses. The journey concludes in southern Vietnam’s Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City, and the sprawling Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, where the tour ends in Siem Reap.

The itinerary's mix of trains, boats, scooters and rickshaws passes through both the major historic landmarks and the quieter scenery beyond, with moments as varied as dawn alms-giving in Luang Prabang and the underground war tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City.
