This escorted small-group holiday begins in Moshi, where a careful kit check precedes a trek along the Lemosho route up Kilimanjaro. The ascent takes in varied landscapes, from rainforest where colobus monkeys chatter overhead to lava ridges and moorland, camping each night before tackling the final 14-hour push to Uhuru Peak—the highest spot in Africa. The zig-zagging scree slopes and sections that demand hands-on scrambling ensure no one can call this a gentle stroll.

After descending through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, the trip switches gears with a safari extension. A drive brings the group to the edges of Lake Manyara National Park, known for its flamingos and tree-climbing lions, then on to a lodge near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There’s a full day in the crater itself, with walls towering nearly 600 metres and wildlife ranging from lions to hyenas. The final day visits Tarangire National Park for elephant spotting beside the Tarangire River before returning to Moshi for the trip’s close.
The itinerary balances exertion with downtime at a locally owned lodge, and the pace allows time for proper acclimatisation and wildlife watching. The keen climber will notice how the mountain shifts from forest to alpine desert, while the safari opens a window onto Tanzania’s iconic wildlife habitats without rushing.
