About the trip

Fred. Olsen’s Balmoral sets off from Southampton for a nine-night voyage along Norway’s fjords in the autumn, when the changing season adds a crispness to the air and a blaze of colour to the hillsides. The route begins with a day’s sailing before reaching the waters of Lysefjord, overlooked by the sheer cliffs that are home to Pulpit Rock.

There are calls at small towns such as Leirvik and Skjolden, as well as Olden, which sits at the head of Nordfjord and is a gateway to glaciers and peaks. The Balmoral also cruises Åkrafjord and Langfoss waterfall, a cascade much admired even from the ship’s deck. Ålesund, with its distinctive Art Nouveau architecture spread across several islands, offers a change of pace before the ship spends two days sailing back toward Southampton.
