About the trip
Fourteen nights on Renaissance travelling a clockwise circuit of the eastern Caribbean from Bridgetown, Barbados. The ship’s route touches islands shaped by different colonial histories, from Barbados itself through French-flavoured Martinique and Fort de France to Dutch-inflected Willemstad on Curacao.
The itinerary includes natural highlights like St Lucia’s twin volcanic peaks, the Pitons, visible from the ship on approach, and the British Virgin Islands where the ship calls at Road Town in Tortola. St John’s on Antigua and Philipsburg on Saint Maarten present a mix of colonial architecture and Caribbean beaches, all within a relatively short distance from one another.
Ambassador Cruise Line’s Renaissance is not one of the largest ships in the Caribbean, lending a more relaxed pace to the trip with a dozen or so calls in two weeks. There are no overnight stays in port, so expect early mornings and some time at sea. The cruise begins and ends in Bridgetown, making it a neat circle, with enough variety to avoid the impression of ticking boxes on a map.
