About the trip

Setting out from Rosyth, Balmoral heads north to Skjolden, the only village at the end of Norway’s longest fjord, the Sognefjord. Here, the steep mountains rise sharply from the water while the nearby Briksdal Glacier is a tempting option for walkers. The ship spends time cruising the Lustrafjord and Sognefjord, passages where waterfalls drop almost into the fjord and the scale of the cliffs is clear.

Olden is the next port, another gateway for hikes or perhaps a kayak trip before Balmoral follows the Nordfjord up towards Hornelen, a dramatic cliff face near the sea reputedly Europe’s highest. The west Norwegian coastline continues to reveal itself with calls at Molde and Ålesund, towns notable for their wooden architecture and maritime history. The cruise completes by skimming the Hjørundfjord, a fjord less travelled but with steep-sided valleys and quiet villages tucked away.
