About the trip
The Renaissance sets off from Bridgetown, Barbados, then heads north and west through the eastern Caribbean, visiting a string of islands well known for their distinct cultures and landscapes. After Barbados, you’ll call at Guadeloupe’s Pointe a Pitre and Martinique’s Fort de France, both French overseas territories with lively markets and mellow colonial architecture.
Further along, the itinerary continues to Basseterre in St Kitts, Road Town in Tortola, and Philipsburg on Saint Maarten, a split island with Dutch and French sides. Dominica’s capital Roseau is another notable stop: this island bears dense rainforest and volcanic terrain that show a different side to the Caribbean than the usual sun and sand.
The ship also visits Willemstad in Curacao, with its colourful Dutch colonial buildings facing the harbour, and Kingstown in St Vincent & the Grenadines before returning to Barbados. Ambassador Cruise Line’s Renaissance is a midsize ship, small enough to navigate these varied ports with ease, making for a relaxed pace amid a diverse itinerary.
