Active Canadian Rockies Adventure

This week-long G Adventures tour takes a handful of walkers through some of the Canadian Rockies' most accessible but still rewarding trails. Starting at Waterton National Park, the route meanders along paths like Bertha Lake and leads past Red Rock Canyon, a fine introduction to the area's glacier-carved landscapes.

Among the hikes are Crypt Lake and Carthew Summit, while the brief Ptarmigan Cirque trail offers a gentler chance to breathe in mountain air. Later, the pace marches through Banff National Park where Banff town provides a brief contrast to the wilderness. Outdoor activity continues with cycling near the town and on to Yoho National Park, where the Iceline trail’s vistas look down on distant peaks and glacier-fed turquoise lakes.

Camping is part of the experience; dome tents and mattresses ease the basic nights under the stars, with the gear shared among the small group. Each day involves sustained fresh air, often the sharp scent of pine and damp earth, paired with the exertion of walking trails known to the locals but open to visitors. The trip finishes back near Calgary, with memories of mountain passes to carry home.
