About the trip
This nine-night tour with G Adventures takes you from the bright bustle of Chengdu to the quieter Hakka cultural villages of Yongding, where overnight stays reveal a different side of China’s heritage. Along the way there’s a cycle tour through Yangshuo’s limestone hills and rice paddies, a chance for a local lunch, and an orientation walk through the town’s streets.
The trip moves on with a city tour of Guangzhou, a place that fuses old and new in equal measure. It finishes in Shanghai, where a CEO-led walk through the old town introduces some of China’s busiest streets without overwhelming. Throughout, travel is by bike, train, bus or on foot, with a local leader to guide but also leave plenty of room for your own pace.
This is a small group trip with a maximum of 18 guests. It trades the glare of China’s big cities for leafy lanes and countryside villages, balanced with enough urban time to pin down the country’s fast-changing rhythms. You’ll meet fellow travellers around meals and rides, and get a sense of China beyond its familiar skyline images.
