About the trip
This small-group walking holiday with Explore Worldwide follows the Corfu Trail from south to north, starting in the island’s Venetian-influenced capital, Corfu Town. After an introduction to the pastel-hued streets and the twin Venetian forts, the route heads south past the ruined monastery of Arkoudillas to the island’s southern beach, before crossing inland through olive groves, lakes and villages including Lefkimmi and Benitses.
Midway, walkers climb to Agii Deka, Corfu’s second highest peak, and pass along the west coast near the nudist-friendly Myrtiotissa beach before reaching the quiet village of Liapades. The northern sector takes in the Karst Plateau, remote monasteries on Pantokrator Mountain and the abandoned village of Palia Perithia with its taverna. Where the trail passes through green valleys, cedars and ancient cobbled footpaths, there is plenty to notice for a traveller who likes to take their time.
The tour ends back in Corfu Town with a walking orientation and some of the island’s famous Venetian sites. The pace suits walkers up for moderate to challenging terrain, with a mixture of road, path and tracks that can be sandy or steep in places. The group is led by a single guide throughout the two weeks.
