The journey crosses from North to South Island by ferry, continuing with the TranzAlpine train through the Southern Alps to Franz Josef Glacier. Queenstown provides several days to either relax or seek a splash of adrenaline on the Kawarau Jet ride or Dart River. Milford Sound’s waterfalls and dark waters are a highlight, as are the glow worm-lit caves near Te Anau.

Later stops include Dunedin, with its Edwardian railway station and nearby albatross colony, and peaceful Omarama before the tour concludes in Christchurch.
