The Old Delhi walk threads through narrow lanes and ends at the vast Jama Masjid mosque, offering a slice of everyday chaos and calm. Agra follows with a visit to the Taj Mahal, the near-perfect marble mausoleum that draws crowds despite the inevitable heat and queues.

From Jaipur, there’s a taste of rural Rajasthan with an overnight village stay, before a short flight takes the group south to the Maldives. Here, the pace slows considerably amid turquoise lagoons and coral reefs. For six nights, travellers share cramped but characterful quarters aboard a traditional dhoni, stopping on islands such as Fulidhoo and Felidhu.
