The journey shifts north to Kashmir, where a houseboat on Dal Lake and a walk up Shankaracharya Hill temper the earlier bustle. There’s a guided trek in the Lidder Valley and a jeep ride to the snowfields of Zero Point near Sonmarg. Then come sweeping drives over mountain passes into Ladakh, with visits to war memorials, monasteries perched on moonscapes, and an overnight at the Lamayuru Monastery.

Travelling by a mix of private vehicle, plane, boat and jeep, the route is a steady unfolding of contrasts — from grand Mughal architecture to Himalayan valleys.
