This escorted tour by Explore Worldwide sets off in New Delhi, where a first evening stroll takes in Hanuman's Temple and Connaught Place. After a morning city drive to sights such as India Gate and Humayun's Tomb, the group moves on to Sariska National Park to spot tigers in dry forests and rocky terrain.
The route continues with a boat ride on the Chambal River near Dholpur in Uttar Pradesh, home to gharials and river dolphins, before a scenic train journey to Khajuraho where the UNESCO-listed erotic temples hold court. Wildlife drives then follow in the teak forests and waterfalls of Panna National Park.
Bandhavgarh offers a reputedly high density of tigers in its grasslands and sal forests, with morning and afternoon 4WD safaris, before the final leg in Kanha’s expansive meadows and forests, said to have inspired The Jungle Book. The trip concludes back in Delhi with a walk through the bazaars and an introduction to local street food. The pace stretches out over two weeks, with plenty of time for wildlife spotting and the odd bit of culture.
