Travelsphere’s escorted tour begins in Delhi, where the lanes of Old Delhi lead past spice stalls and the Red Fort, contrasted sharply by Government House and Parliament Square in New Delhi. A visit to the Salaam Baalak Trust offers a glimpse of city life beyond the usual highlights.

Next is Amritsar, where the Golden Temple’s gilded dome catches the evening light during the Palki Ceremony and reappears in daylight beside the marble causeway. The nearby Jallianwala Bagh memorial adds a somber note to the day. Then Mumbai arrives as a jumble of art deco buildings, film studios, sea air and seemingly endless traffic.

Board the Deccan Odyssey, a heritage train of faded glamour and polished wood, for seven nights across Rajasthan. Stops include a ruined medieval city at Champaner-Pavagadh where mosque and temple share the hill; the blue rooftops beneath Mehrangarh Fort at Jodhpur; the Pink City of Jaipur, softly lit in terracotta; and finally, a safari at Ranthambore in search of Bengal tigers before returning to Delhi for home.
