This small-group tour with Explore Worldwide begins in Windhoek, where colonial architecture brushes against African city life. The road soon leads southwest into the Namib Desert, with nights near Sesriem placing you close to the world’s tallest sand dunes. A morning visit to Sossusvlei reveals dunes reaching up to 300 metres, glowing orange as the sun climbs, alongside the small but shaded Sesriem Canyon.
From the desert, the tour heads to the coast: Walvis Bay’s flamingos and pelicans gather near a deep-sea harbour shaped by a narrow spit. Nearby Swakopmund recalls its German colonial past in neat streets and a museum worth a visit. Heading north, a stop at Cape Cross Seal Colony introduces you to the noisy Cape fur seals, followed by a walk to see San Bushman rock art by Brandberg Mountain.
The final days centre on Etosha National Park, where vast salt pans and grassy plains draw zebras, rhinos and more than 340 bird species to its waterholes. After game drives, the tour concludes with a visit to the Cheetah Conservation Fund and a quiet lodge surrounded by local wildlife before returning to Windhoek.
