Southern India: West to East Coast

This seven-night tour by G Adventures moves from the Arabian Sea on India’s west coast to the Bay of Bengal on the east, making stops in cities and towns that vary widely in mood and pace. The journey begins in Kochi, where spice markets and its historical Jew Town sit alongside reminders of Dutch and Portuguese rule. Mysore offers grand royal palaces and dusk visits to Chamundi Hills, while bustling markets provide a sharp contrast.

Later, the tour heads to Mamallapuram, where the shoreline is marked by the Shore Temple and other sculptures carved from stone centuries ago, catching the sunset glow over the Bay of Bengal. Along the way, time in Bangalore includes a walk around Lalbagh Gardens and the city’s more relaxed corners. Travelling mostly by train and private vehicle, the group size is capped at 16 to keep encounters manageable and local experiences authentic.

The pace allows for some free afternoons to follow your own interests, even if the jets and temples make a persuasive case for sticking close to the itinerary. The chief experience officer and local guides lead visits to Srirangapatna and the tomb of Tipu Sultan, rounding out a diverse week.
