This week-long walking tour by Explore Worldwide threads through Provence’s defining landscapes and cultural landmarks. Starting in Seguret beneath the jagged Dentelles de Montmirail, the route winds through vineyard tracks and rural lanes, including a short walk from Gigondas to Beaumes-de-Venise framed by hills and aromatic vines. You’ll cross limestone gorges edged by towering cliffs and pass through ancient olive orchards producing the region’s renowned olive oil.
Journeys
History
Visits are timed to match the itinerary’s gentle pace, mixing vineyard tastings and a distillery tour with walks up to four and a half hours through pine forests and over limestone crags. You spend nights based in the village of Seguret, the stone-clad Gordes with its ’bories’ stone huts, and the historic Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Avignon. The latter includes a guided tour of the Palais des Papes, the largest Gothic palace in the world.
There’s an honest variety of terrain, from vineyard paths to hillside trails, with a careful eye on elevation. The final afternoon stroll loops around the rocky Val d’Enfer, its weird limestone sculptures bearing a resemblance to descriptions in Dante’s Divine Comedy, offering a quiet point at the tour’s end.
