About the trip
This seven-night walking holiday with Explore Worldwide focuses on the quieter foothills and high valleys of Andorra’s Pyrenees. Starting in Soldeu, a mountain village known for its mix of rural inns and ski resort bustle, the group uses it as a base for daily hikes. One route takes you along the ancient Cami del Gall trail from Merixtell, where a red cockerel marks the path once favoured by wild capercaillies.
A highlight is the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning nearly 50 square kilometres of rugged wilderness. Expect marmots, bearded vultures and the odd ptarmigan here, as well as a picnic stop at a mountain refuge. Other days include alpine walks around the Sorteny Nature Reserve and the Incles Valley, where the high lakes sit quietly under glacial cirques.
The group returns to Barcelona airport on the final day. There is an option for an easy day in Andorra la Vella or a walk to Pessons Lakes for those not quite ready to put down their boots. The pace is steady, with plenty of time to appreciate the mountain air without pressing on too quickly.
