About the trip

This 13-night escorted tour from Explore Worldwide begins in Belize City before heading inland to the Community Baboon Sanctuary to meet black howler monkeys, then to Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary with its maze of lagoons full of wetland birds. The journey continues south along the scenic Hummingbird Highway with a swim in a limestone sinkhole, followed by two nights on Tobacco Caye, a tiny coral island on the Belize Barrier Reef with opportunities for snorkelling and birdwatching. Finally, the tour heads into the jungle to a biology station for hands-on wildlife observation including bat mist netting before finishing with a few days on Caye Caulker, a relaxed island with coral beaches, seafood and reef excursions.

Despite the occasional early start and basic jungle accommodation, this holiday presents a well-paced blend of nature, culture and wildlife in one of Central America’s least visited corners.
