About the trip

This small-group trek with G Adventures sets out from Cusco to the Incan ruins of Choquequirao. Considerably more isolated than Machu Picchu, Choquequirao feels quieter, thanks partly to the demanding hike through the Andes that most visitors choose to skip. The trail takes in dense forests and mountainous terrain, providing views across serrated peaks and valleys.

Camp for three nights under the stars, supported by a local team including guides and porters who handle the gear, meaning your daypack holds only essentials. Two guided tours cover the archaeological site itself, where terracing and stone architecture stand overlooked by few visitors beyond your small group.

Expect early starts and challenging walking but also an atmosphere far removed from the busier sites nearby. The trek concludes back in Cusco after learning about local crafts and having time to acclimatise to the higher altitude before setting off.
