Journeys
First time
An 11-day escorted tour from Explore Worldwide tracing Egypt’s ancient heart, from Cairo’s Pyramids and bustling bazaars to Aswan and a premium Nile cruise, finishing with Luxor’s temples and tombs.
This escorted tour begins in Cairo with visits to the pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the vast Grand Egyptian Museum, where Tutankhamun’s treasures are on display. The itinerary then moves to Alexandria, with its Montaza Palace Gardens, Roman Amphitheatre and the site of the long-lost Lighthouse on Pharos Island.
A short flight takes the group south to Aswan, where the temple of Philae perches on an island and the massive, unfinished obelisk sits in its quarry. From Aswan, there’s a long coach trip to Abu Simbel’s relocated temples before boarding a premium river vessel for three nights cruising the Nile. The temple complex of Kom Ombo and the Greco-Roman temple at Edfu feature, and the group finishes in Luxor, touring the Valley of the Kings, Tutankhamun’s tomb and the dramatic Temple of Queen Hatshepsut.
Along the way, cultural touches pop up, from a Nubian family’s hospitality to an Egyptian cooking class and a calligraphy workshop in Cairo. Group sizes are moderate and the pace blends landmark visits with moments to absorb everyday life beside the Nile.
