About the trip

This G Adventures small group tour takes you across Iceland's variety of landscapes, beginning in Reykjavik before heading to the Golden Circle, where the continent-dividing rift valley of Þingvellir National Park lies beneath the surface. Here, visitors walk among the joints of tectonic plates.

The journey includes a guided hike on the Sólheimajökull glacier, a walk inside the illuminated ice tunnels of Langjökull, and a visit to the Lava Centre, where a volcanologist leads discussions on Iceland's geological activity. The route also visits the Geysir geothermal field, the waterfall Gullfoss, and remote pools in Húsafell volcanic canyon.

Towards the northern fjords, there’s a botanical garden in Akureyri and opportunities to join whale-watching cruises from Húsavík harbour, accompanied by a marine biologist. Along the way, the group enjoys the quieter side of Iceland, from the illuminated ice caves to the turf houses at Glaumbær, without fuss or rapid change of scene.
